Jerking awake, Riku blearily stared out of the passenger window of his dad's big SUV and glowered outside at the neglected, shoddy road. Wherever his dad was taking him, it definitely wasn't taken care of by the city. Must be a bad neighborhood. He guessed that made sense--typical dad, going to the seediest bars and nightclubs and everything else that Riku couldn't care less about.
He had the track team, chess club, mathletes, and the A/B honor roll to keep him busy. Chasing skirts and getting drunk was not his style. Getting into ivy league and far away from his parents was.
As they went over another pothole, his dad swore, and Riku clutched onto the side of the car with a grimace.
"This has gotta be the worst 'bonding time' yet," Riku grumbled, his eyes narrowed to slits as he pushed his glasses back up from dangerously falling off of his nose.
With a heated glower--"Shh," his father hushed him, and for a second or two Riku looked hurt before he rolled his eyes and stared back out towards the dark streets and buildings they were passing by. Ugh--whatever. The sooner they could get this over with, the sooner he could get back to being blissfully ignored.
Pulling up to a large building, Riku studied the fresh coat of paint on the concrete and brick, and leaned back. The rest of the block looked in bad shape, but this place--looked like it was doing pretty well for itself. No posters, though... no name, either. What, was it some sort of secret bar/nightclub?
"Get out," his dad grunted, and Riku glanced at him with a degree of surprise before he took off his seatbelt and climbed out, buttoning up the blazer of his school uniform and casting a cautious glance to his father as he came around.
"I'm not old enough for whatever you're gonna throw me into," Riku scolded, following him closely, watching as his dad straightened his suit and lead them both inside the building.
